Alaina has over 22 years of management experience primarily in the Global Banking sector. She has held a variety of roles in London, New York and Toronto. She holds a BA (Honours) in Economics from Carleton University and a Masters Certificate in Risk Management and Business Performance from Schulich School of Business.
Alaina has been in her current role as Vice President, Data Management & Governance in Personal and Commercial Banking since Apr 2017. She is responsible for leading the Centre of Excellence for Data management that proactively develops implements and oversees the suitability of data stewardship administration and governance policies that align with the strategic priorities of P&CB with an outcome of delivering industry leading data focused solutions in customer information management. Previously at RBC, Alaina served as Head of Data Management and Integrity for P&CB, Head of Finance Operational Risk & Initiatives and Head of IT Global Business Management for RBC Capital Markets. She provided leadership and strategic oversight to the design, implementation and execution of effective operational risk mitigation for the Finance, Corporate Treasury, Enterprise Services, and General Council business units that configure the Office of the CAO & CFO. At Capital Markets, her department was responsible for the management, production, and reporting lifecycles for Operations, Risk, Finance, Compliance, and Shared Services Technology.
Alaina was born in Canada but has lived in the UK for over half of her career, having the opportunity to work both in London and between New York and Toronto during her time at Morgan Stanley. During these years she held a number of progressive global roles bridging across IT and Finance as a VP Technology. From 1998-2005 she lead and managed IT Finance Operations International, based in London. On returning to Morgan Stanley, 2009-2012 she was part of Global Finance Technology, Vice President, where she managed a Strategic Capital/Risk IT Initiative; this global strategic program focused on building Risk management systems supporting the use of Capital and Risk for transactions or business.
Alaina has held a variety of other international banking roles in the UK as she progressed through her career; Business Management & IT Assistant Director, ABN AMRO Hoare Govett, Global Management Office, IT Manager at ING Barings, European Finance & Operations Manager at PRG International, Project Office Manager at Mercury Paging Ltd., Research Analyst at CHREOD Consultants in Ottawa, Canada.
Outside of work, Alaina has won gold medals at the National Rowing Championships of Great Britain and representing England. At University she captained the Varsity swim team. For a decade she was an active member of and Executive Treasurer for the Canadian Women’s Club based in London, UK. Today she sits on the Executive Committee of United Way Women Gaining Ground as an advisor and was the former Chair of the Investment Committee; dedicated to supporting women’s philanthropy in the GTA. Her personal interests include rowing, swimming, tennis, fine art, classical music, and interior architecture. Alaina lives in Toronto with her two teenage children.
